Is this the real Notepad++ application?
No — this is a browser-based editor inspired by Notepad++'s layout and features (multi-tab, syntax highlighting, status bar, find/replace). It runs entirely in your browser without installing software. It is not affiliated with the Notepad++ project.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All editing happens locally in your browser. Session state is stored in localStorage on your device. Download, print, and vault save also keep content on your machine — the vault uses IndexedDB and never syncs to DevBench servers.
How do I save my work?
Use Download to save the active tab as a file, Save to vault to store a draft in your local DevBench vault (IndexedDB), or rely on automatic session restore — tabs and content reload when you return on the same browser. Share copies a URL with the document encoded in the link fragment.
Which languages support syntax highlighting?
Over 30 modes including JavaScript, TypeScript, JSON, HTML, CSS, Python, Java, C/C++, Go, Rust, SQL, YAML, Markdown, Shell, PowerShell, and more. Language is auto-detected from the file extension when you open a file, or choose manually from the Language menu.
How do I compare two open tabs?
Open at least two tabs, then use Compare with in the toolbar to pick another tab. DevBench opens Text Diff in a new tab with both documents pre-filled. You can also copy either tab and use the dedicated Diff checker workspace at /diff-checker.
Can I open a vault entry in the editor?
Yes. From the vault page, open a notepad vault entry — it links to /notepad?vault=ENTRY_ID (or the compact tool page). Vault entries saved with tool slug notepad-plus-plus appear when you browse the vault.
